Press conference at the end of LIFE FRANCA project
On Monday 2 December 2019 at 11:30 at the MUSE, LIFE FRANCA team presented to the local press the work carried out over the years and the main results of the project. Furthermore, it has been announced the public closing event of the project with Mario Tozzi, researcher at the Italian Research Council and science communicator.

The third and last cycle of science café events took place in December 2019 at the MUSE Café.
Those events are related to the next travelling educational exhibition that will be hosted at the MUSE in the winter of 2019 Nature in motion. Anticipating floods.
Professors and researchers from the University of Trento and the University of Padova Technicians and experts from Services of the Autonomous Province of Trento described how Future Studies and the anticipation approach can be applied to the prevention of hydrogeological risks.

The international conference of the project LIFE FRANCA Anticipation and communication of natural risks took place in Trento in October at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Trento.
The conference was organised by the Eastern Alps Hydrographic District within the action of networking.
Representatives from European and Italian universities and institutions attended the conference on 21 and 22 October 2019.

Project deliverable: Guidelines for flood risk communication
The Service for torrent control of the Autonomous Province of Trento, in collaboration with Giancarlo Sturloni, journalist and risk communication specialist, has produced the Guidelines for flood risk communication.
The document is one of the project outcomes and it provides useful recommendations to all the intituions that are in charge of flood risk management.

Last meeting of three horizon workshops
31 December 2018
42 Three Horizons workshops of “future exercise” have been carried out in the three project study areas by the Department of Sociology and Social research of the University of Trento.
Three Horizon meetings took place in Trento, Borgo Valsugana and in the Rendena Valley. During these workshops participants (citizens and groups of stakeholders) projected themselves in possible futures, saw what may happen and gain insights for action in the present.

Second meeting of working groups with institution interested in the methodology of the project LIFE FRANCA
This second meeting took place in the offices of the Eastern Alps Hydrographic District on December the 5th.
Experts from different institutions discussed about effective bi-directional instrument of communication between citizens and authorities concerning information, warning and alert of flood events.

Educational visit for journalists
7 September 2018
Educational visit for journalist in LIFE FRANCA intervention areas.
An educational visit addressed exclusively to journalists took place in September 2018. The visit included two LIFE FRANCA study areas: Borgo Valsugana town and Trento. During the visit, journalists could see the territorial issues that generates flood risk and relevant prevention measures that mitigate such risk.

LIFE FRANCA in collaboration with the association Alta scuola (Scuola di Alta Specializzazione e Centro Studi per la Manutenzione e Conservazione dei Centri Storici in Territori Instabili) organised the workshop Governance H3O
The workshop took place in Orvieto. Experts from local and national institutions worked together in a 3 Horizons future exercise in order to identify risks and critical aspects in managing natural resources.

The first of three cycle of Science cafés took place in May at the MUSE Cafè. This first cycle was related to the first educational exhibition developed within the project: Nature in motion. Avalanches, landslides and floods: knowing is preventing hosted in the same period at MUSE
Each event focused on a specific hydrogeological natural phenomenon: avalanches, floods and landslides. They were organized in collaboration with Trento Film Festival and ASviS – Alleanza Italiana per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile.

Flood risk portal

The flood risk portal is online at portal.lifefranca.eu
The portal will provide information on hydrogeological conditions in the Trentino region.
The portal has been designed and developed by the Service for Torrent Control of the Autonomous Province of Trento and Trilogis, and it will be implemented over the next months.
Users will find updated information about flood risk and will be able to bring to attention anomalies observed in the territory.
(The portal is in Italian).

The second press conference about implementation, progresses and next steps of the LIFE FRANCA project took place at the MUSE.
The conference took place at the end of a course about Enviromental Journalism.

Teachers training course

The teacher training course Hydrogeological risk: shifting from emergency to anticipation took place in October 2017 with 42 teachers enrolled.
The course has been organised by MUSE in collaboration with other project partners. It consisted of 7 lessons, each one lasting about 3 hours: 4 lectures indoor taken at the MUSE and 3 field trips.

Focus groups with citizens from LIFE FRANCA case study areas have started. During each workshop, participants will take part in a “future exercise”, using the scenarios prepared by stakeholders over the past few months.

Residents, tourists and municipal technicians responsible for land management and civil defence have shared their opinions about floods.

Start of educational programme

LIFE FRANCA educational activities have been presented to teachers.
On 18 and 19 September took place at the MUSE, the Science Museum of Trento, the open days for school teachers.

The Department of Sociology and Social Research of the University of Trento has conducted an analysis of the flood risk perception among stakeholders in Trentino.
A web questionnaire and a qualitative interview have been addressed to: elected officers and public administrators, managers of public technical services, leaders of citizens associations, school principals and media managing editors.

LIFE FRANCA visited the area of intervention of the projects LIFE RII e LIFE RINASCE.
A networking trip has been organised by the Eastern Alps Hydrographic District, to meet representatives of LIFE RII and LIFE RINASCE.
LIFE FRANCA beneficiaries visited the area of intervention of the two projects, in particular channels and brooks in the Italian region Emilia Romagna where hydrological and environmental restoration took place.
Flood events in Trentino

The University of Padova has completed a review of the hazard data and information about past flood events in Trentino.
Data refers to: flood that occurred in the Province of Trento, spatial and temporal coordinates, type and intensity of the phenomena, meteorological conditions at the time.

Muse, with the the collaboration of the Service for Torrent control, has produced an educational video that describes flood hazard maps, the primary tool used to formulate policy that focuses on prevention and protection of the population.

University of Padova has completed a review of existing visual flood risk communication practices.
The information collected will be used for the development of the “Flood risk Portal”, a LIFE FRANCA product.
Meeting with local authorities

LIFE FRANCA project has been presented to the authorities of the three case study areas
Professor Roberto Poli, LIFE FRANCA coordinator, presented the project to administrators and technicians from Trento, Borgo Valsugana and Bocenago. All the institutions involved declared that they are interested in the project’s results and that they are willing to collaborate.
First public event as launch of the project

The first public presentation of the LIFE FRANCA project took place at the conference hall of the MUSE
During the conference Hydrogeological instability. Manage what can be avoided, avoid what cannot be managed: overview of Italy and Trentino LIFE FRANCA was official presented to the public. The event was free of charge and was attended by 158 people, among them there were many professionals.

The first press conference took place the the 22nd of November at the MUSE.
The press release was send to more than 80 journalists, bloggers, editors, websites, newspapers and magazines.
About 10 journalists attended the conference.
