Anticipation and communication of natural risks
21-22 October 2019, Trento (Italy)
Most natural hazards and social phenomena unfold on a long time span. The adoption of a forward-looking perspective is the best and most efficient strategy for understanding the ways in which nature and society may change, developing programs for mitigating natural risks, managing unfolding novelties and equipping decision-makers, technicians and the population at large with the capacity and the tools for addressing both risks and opportunities.
To develop effective policies, natural hazard changes should be coupled with social changes. Moreover, institutions, companies and population should develop strategies for coping also with uncertainties arising from unknowable novelties and wrongly estimated or possibly miscalculated risks.
